Spaceport America Cup

About Spaceport America Cup

The Spaceport America Cup is designed around IREC – the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition for student rocketry teams from all over the USA and around the world. With over 110 teams from colleges and universities in eleven countries, 2017 was the competition’s biggest year yet. Students will be launching solid, liquid and hybrid rockets to target altitudes of 10.000 and 30.000 feet, equipped with 4kg of payload. The competition is scheduled to last 5 days, in the summer vacation, from June 20th to 24th. The first day of the event is Presentation & Conference Day, at the LAS Cruces Convention Center, giving students, judges, recruiters, and the public a chance to see all of the rocket and experiment projects. On the next day the The Spaceport America Vertical Launch Area will be closed for public so that the students can prepare and test their equipment. On the last 3 days, the lunch site will be open for students to fire their rockets.

Why DanSTAR would like to participate in the competition

In DanSTAR we know it is important for us to challenge ourselves and have a goal to strive for, thus the competition will help us being focused and staying true to our vision. Furthermore, we want our university Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the school Marine Engenerring School København (MSK) and the relevant businesses and industries in Denmark to favor aerospace. So by signing up for Spaceport America Cup, not only are we challenging ourselves and others but we are also promoting our universities, schools, businesses and industries in Denmark.
